Grow a Garden Pets List — All Abilities and Hatch Rates
I spent six hours hatching Mythical eggs chasing a Butterfly before I confirmed its hatch rate from the egg I was using. The rate was one percent. I was expecting something closer to five. That gap between assumption and reality cost a significant amount of resources before I stopped and looked up the actual number. This page is the reference I wish I had before that session — every Grow a Garden pet with its rarity tier, hatch rate, and what it actually does in your garden. Check pet Sheckle values before any trade at the Grow a Garden Pet Calculator.
This guide covers every pet in Grow a Garden — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Mythical, Divine, and Prismatic — with their abilities, hatch rates, and trade value multipliers.
How Pet Rarity and Hatch Rates Work
Every pet in Grow a Garden comes from a specific egg type and has a fixed hatch probability from that egg. Higher rarity does not automatically mean lower hatch rate across all eggs — a Divine pet from an egg designed to contain it may have a higher probability than a Mythical pet from a general egg pool. The hatch rate is specific to the egg type, not just the pet rarity.
Rarity sets the base multiplier for trade value. A Common pet at ×1.02 to ×1.10 starts from a completely different Sheckle floor than a Prismatic pet at ×8.5 to ×9.0 even at identical age, weight, and mutation tier. Understanding both the hatch rate and the rarity multiplier before spending any eggs is the foundation of efficient pet farming. Use the egg hatch calculator at the pet calculator page to see exact expected pet counts from any batch size before hatching.
Common and Uncommon Pets
Common Pets — Abilities and Uses
Bee at ×1.05 has a pollination ability that increases crop mutation chance during active farming sessions. Butterfly at ×1.03 as a Common is a base variant — do not confuse with the Mythical Butterfly which applies Rainbow mutation. Snail at ×1.02 gives a small passive XP boost to nearby pets. Chicken at ×1.08 increases egg hatch speed passively. Duck at ×1.10 gives a water-based crop growth bonus. Rabbit at ×1.10 boosts crop yield on multi-harvest plants. Frog at ×1.06 has a chance to apply Wet mutation to crops during Rain events. Grey Mouse at ×1.07 gives a small Sheckle bonus on each crop sale.
Common pets are the starting foundation for any garden loadout. Their individual ability outputs are low but they contribute to early-game setups while stronger pets are being hatched and leveled. Do not underestimate their trade-in value for egg crafting — some Common pets are required as crafting ingredients for specific egg types that can produce Mythical or Divine pets.
Uncommon Pets — Notable Abilities
Cat at ×1.12 gives a luck bonus that slightly improves mutation rates during active sessions. Dog at ×1.15 increases Sheckle bonus on pet-adjacent harvests. Cow at ×1.25 is the highest base multiplier Uncommon and gives a passive crop growth rate bonus. Pig at ×1.14 boosts compost yield. Goat at ×1.18 gives a terrain-based crop bonus in certain biome conditions. Sheep at ×1.20 produces Wool resource passively that feeds into specific crafting recipes. Turtle at ×1.12 reduces crop decay rate during offline periods. Brown Mouse at ×1.16 gives a stacking small Sheckle bonus per crop sold in sequence.
Rare Pets — Where Meaningful Value Starts
Rare Pet Abilities
Fox at ×1.35 gives a Foxfire mutation chance to nearby crops on a timer — the base version of the Foxfire mutation chain. Horse at ×1.45 boosts crop growth speed in the surrounding plot area. Deer at ×1.40 gives a passive nature-based mutation bonus during specific weather types. Owl at ×1.50 is the base Owl variant — important as a stepping stone toward Night Owl and Blood Owl for XP stacking covered in the pet XP guide. Bear at ×1.60 is the highest base multiplier Rare pet and gives a passive resource gathering bonus. Raccoon at ×1.42 has a scavenging ability that adds small Sheckle bonuses from harvested crops automatically. Penguin at ×1.44 applies Chilled mutation to crops during Frost weather at an improved rate. Kiwi at ×1.55 reduces the longest active hatch timer by 25 seconds per minute.
Rare pets are the first tier where trade value becomes meaningful in negotiations between mid-game players. Fox, Bear, and Kiwi are the three most actively traded Rare pets because their abilities directly improve Sheckle output and hatch speed in ways that players feel immediately in their sessions.
My Hands-On Experience With Rare Pets
The Kiwi was the first pet that changed how I played rather than just adding a small passive number I never noticed. Before Kiwi, egg hatching felt like something that happened in the background while I farmed. After getting a Kiwi at age 30 with a decent weight, I started noticing that my second and third eggs were finishing meaningfully faster during sessions. When I eventually got a Blood Kiwi — which reduces the longest timer by 45 seconds per minute instead of 25 — the difference became dramatic enough that I restructured my entire egg hatching session strategy around it. Stack Blood Kiwi, standard Kiwi, and Rooster together and egg sessions that used to take the full hatch time run noticeably faster across an entire play session.
Legendary Pets — Daily Trading Staples
Legendary Pet Full List and Abilities
Dragon at ×2.5 gives a passive Sheckle multiplier on all harvests from fire-type crops. Apple Gazelle at ×2.2 boosts crop quality and gives a nature mutation bonus. Banana Bear at ×2.0 gives a resource gathering and crop yield bonus. Eagle at ×2.3 gives a vision-based ability that reveals upcoming weather event types slightly early. Lion at ×2.4 boosts Sheckle output on high-rarity crop harvests. Tiger at ×2.45 gives a predator-based mutation application chance on nearby crops. Unicorn at ×2.6 is the highest base multiplier Legendary pet and gives a passive Rainbow spawn rate increase on crops in the adjacent plot.
Legendary pets are where most active players spend the majority of their trading time because they are accessible enough to appear in regular trades but valuable enough that accurate calculation matters before every negotiation. Never evaluate a Legendary trade without running both pets through the pet calculator for age-adjusted weight and full Sheckle value first.
Pet Weight and Classification
Every pet you hatch has a weight based on hatch roll and age. Huge-rolled pets are worth dramatically more than Normal-rolled pets of the same species at the same age. The classification system — Normal, Huge, Titanic, Godly — determines how a pet’s weight scales as it ages and directly affects both its ability output and trade value. Before trading any pet you believe might be Huge or Titanic, back-calculate its hatch weight using the weight calculator so you know its actual ceiling before any negotiation starts. For complete details on weight classifications and how they affect pet value, see the Huge vs Titanic pet guide.
Mythical, Divine, and Prismatic Pets
Mythical Pets — Reserve Currency
Phoenix at ×3.0 gives a fire-based mutation bonus and resurrection ability that saves harvested crops from decay. Wisp at ×4.5 gives passive XP to nearby pets — the base version of the Blood Owl XP chain at a lower rate but with higher rarity multiplier. Griffin at ×3.5 gives a storm-based mutation application chance and aerial survey ability. Mythical pets are effectively reserve currency in the Grow a Garden economy — Rainbow or Goldsparkle Mythical pets regularly trade for amounts that represent weeks of farming from other players.
Divine and Prismatic Pets
Celestial at ×6.0 gives a celestial mutation passive chance on nearby crops during Meteor Shower events — stronger than any standard crop-mutation pet available at lower tiers. Galactic at ×5.5 gives a Galactic mutation application bonus and a passive Sheckle multiplier on all harvests. Cosmic Wisp at ×8.5 gives passive XP at Blood Owl rates plus a Cosmic mutation bonus during specific weather — the single most valuable XP pet in the game at this tier. Prismatic Dragon at ×9.0 is the highest base multiplier pet in the game and gives the strongest passive Sheckle multiplier on all harvest types simultaneously.
Always run Divine and Prismatic pet trades through the full pet calculator with age, weight, mutation tier, and growth form all set correctly before responding to any offer. A missing mutation tier input on a Goldsparkle Prismatic Dragon changes the result by a factor of six — the difference between accepting a fair trade and giving away an asset worth hundreds of millions of Sheckles more than what you received.
Best Pets by Purpose
For passive XP stacking: Night Owl at 0.20 XP per second and Blood Owl at 0.50 XP per second to all other active pets. Two Night Owls plus one Blood Owl gives every active pet 0.90 XP per second simultaneously — the fastest passive leveling setup available. Full breakdown in the pet XP guide.
For crop mutation application: Dragonfly for Gold every five minutes, Goldfinch for Goldsparkle at low probability, Butterfly for Rainbow on five-plus mutation crops, Raiju for the Stormcharged chain from Shocked.
For egg hatching speed: Blood Kiwi at 45 seconds reduction per minute on the longest active timer, standard Kiwi at 25 seconds, Rooster for 20 percent passive hatch speed. Stack all three for the fastest possible egg sessions.
For Sheckle output: Unicorn for passive Rainbow spawn rate increase, Tiger for mutation application on high-rarity crops, Lion for Sheckle multiplier on rare harvests. The Huge vs Titanic pet guide explains how weight classification affects ability strength across all pet tiers.
